The modest brick home at 8435 Roanoke Drive in a quiet neighborhood of St. Louis may not look like much from the outside. But the events that inspired the iconic film “The Exorcist” took place inside it.
According to local lore, the son of the family that lived in the home was possessed by a demon while playing with a Ouija board. When priests arrived to the house, they found the boy’s bed shaking, and witnessed scrapes and welts spontaneously appearing on his skin, sometimes forming letters and words.
An infamous exorcism, which actually took place at a local university, followed.
